Our Dog Doo Doo

I know it has been a while...but here is an update on what has been going on in my world, lately....

I went back to work about a month ago....I got a job in a vets office. It is OK, but the good part about it, is that I landed it, "just in time". Our 130 lb. Norweign lab, Doo Doo (aka Sampson), got REALLY super sick. When I brought him to work with me that day, I found out that our sweet dog had to have a blood transfusion!!! I was shocked! Anyhow...I actually got to help with this process, (as squimish as I was, we needed THREE people, and guess who # 3 was...yeah...ME!) ACK! But I wanted our pooch to live ;-)

We didn't think he would survive it. About three days later, he was actually WORSE than when I had brought him in. We made the decision that if he was going to "go", that we wanted him to be at home, with us, and the other dog that he had been with all of his life, Mutley.

We brought home our baby, with full intentions of losing him, to whatever was ailing him. I would sit on the floor with him and hand feed him chicken and rice, hamburger, etc. We had been given some anti-biotics and a red-blood cell booster. Within a couple of days, we started seeing some improvement....and after about 4 days, he was heading through the road of recovery.

Since his transfusion, he is doing MUCH better. He has become a "house dog" now, though, because it is getting colder, and I don't want him to get sick again.

We don't know what caused his illness. We know that he had some internal bleeding, but it has healed and he is doing well, so far......

That has been the big thing that we are going through over the last couple of weeks.
